What Is Underwriting?

Underwriting is the Federal Communication Commissions (FCC) way for nonprofit radio stations to raise money. Underwriting is not to be confused with advertising.  Noncommercial radio stations are not allowed to air advertisements.  The main difference between underwriting and advertising is the content that is permitted.  Underwriting is an acknowledgement of a donation, and is not allowed under FCC Regulations to make certain statements. For more information about these FCC Regulations please contact the WVCR General Manager - Darrin Scott Kibbey at (518) - 782 - 6751 or dkibbey@siena.edu . WVCR follows these regulations without exception and must approve of all Underwriting Announcements before they are aired.
